Frozen South River


This is an image dating back a decade…  January 26, 2003 to be exact.  It was the first time I’d seen the South River (seriously — because it’s south of Annapolis) completely frozen over for as far as the eye could see.  Cindy says that even the Chesapeake itself has frozen completely over when she was still living at home in her youth, though I’ve yet to see that with my own eyes.

    Back in '88 or '89, I docked Sun Po at Annapolis City Marina. To my recollection the bay froze over above the bridge – at least with a shallow skim of ice. On Spa Creek, around Sun Po, the ice was 4 – 6 inches that chewed the waterline.
