Cindy nearly stepped on this enormous toad the other day as she was looking around at the emerging flowers in our backyard.

He was burrowed down in the sunlit grass and enjoying the warmth, when she accidentally flushed him out. As soon as she saw him, she dashed in the house and practically dragged me out to take his portrait.

It’s been a long time since we saw a toad here; at least a year. Besides being big — about two-thirds the size of my fist — he looked quite healthy and in good shape, so we left him alone after I took these shots. We sure hope he stays and isn’t eaten or injured by some other critter out there.
