      I expect it’s a fairly new tree; I’m certain it wasn’t there during the Civil War in the 1860’s, as it would have obstructed the view and angle of fire at the time. But I’m sure it’s seen a lot since then…

      Ah. FTFY (fixed that for you). It’s Fort Lincoln, located within Point Lookout State Park, which is in Scotland, Maryland.

      A third of the fort has now been eroded away (to the right of the image) by the combined waters of the Chesapeake Bay and Potomac River (this image was shot on the Potomac River side), which is why you don’t see a fort wall there.
