Surprisingly, this one smelled like melon when I twisted it apart.

      Nope — doesn’t smell like an orange; it’s usually quite resinous, which is why I was surprised that this one smelled like a melon.

      I don’t believe that people eat it, but cows are known for attempting to eat them whole and must be kept away so they don’t die from the fruit getting stuck in their throats.

    We saw some of these in our area a month or so ago and I didn’t know what they were (and forgot to look them up.) I thought they were called Osage oranges and, looking them up right now, found that they are…plus hedge apple, etc. I see now I could have looked at the caption on your photo, too. 🙂 But the brain-like details of the shot shut my brain down, I guess.
