Not familiar with the Oregon Trail?  This part is located just south of Lander, Wyoming and you can read all about it here.  Is it really red?  It sure is; you can see for yourself here.  And the best part is the utter silence and solitude there… just the sound of an occasional car or truck going by.

Utter and total silence. Like having cotton balls in your ears. There were no major air routes over it, so you didn’t even see or hear jets. The only noise was an occasional vehicle driving by every 15-30 minutes.

I’m used to open spaces, but this one seems more…open, I guess… than almost anything I can think of, especially with the fence line in the foreground to give it scale. It’s a very, very nice image.

Thank you, ma’am. It was a big, big space… as far as the eye could see. Just few bugs making noise, birds on the wing fluttering by, and the wind sighing through the grass. Truly wonderful.
