A Magnolia stellata bloom with bamboo in the background — Central Maryland (March 2016)

I have no idea what this bloom is.  I was driving by a stand of bamboo and thought it was blooming, rushed back to take a photo, and discovered it was a different bush altogether, blooming among the bamboo stalks.

UPDATE:  Many thanks to everyone that informed me this was a star magnolia (Magnolia stellata).  I won’t soon forget it now!

      There are so many plants out there even a real plant expert will come across one they don’t know from time to time! It takes time to become familiar with even the most common garden plants!

      Yep 😉 I’m the stubborn type that tries every single search technique possible before I ask others! This one I knew already as lovely Wisley Gardens nearby have just about every type of magnolia you can find somewhere in the gardens 🙂 I have my favourites and this is one of them! I just love the effect when the whole tree is bursting with blooms.

      I probably could have gotten the correct answer first via a Google reverse image look up — but then I wouldn’t have had all the nice interactions with everyone. So there is that angle to consider as well… 😉
