Lucky Little Hopper

There’s nothing quite like the chill of seeing movement down by your feet just after passing over a patch of lawn that you thought was clear of any critters.  And so it was with this little guy, who hopped over to the side of this utility cover in our yard right after our electric push-mower whooshed over the top of his hiding place.

When did this occur?  About twenty minutes before posting this image.  I checked him/her carefully to make sure he/she was okay, then let him/her wander off, while I went inside to post-process the image and cool down from the heat for a bit.

We rarely see toads or frogs in our yard anymore; this is the first large toad we’ve seen in over three years (the last one can be seen here), so we always keep an eye peeled for them while we’re doing yard work.

I don’t where I would be today without these two people in my life — my spouse (and best friend) and my father; I owe everything I am to them.

Tiny 35mm film cameras can seriously rock, as revealed by the image above.

I’ve always been a fan of little cameras — and have previously said so here, and here.  So just how “little” is a little camera?  Not much bigger than the palm of your hand.  Don’t believe me?  Check out the image below. Continue Reading →

Their anniversary would have been earlier in the month, but I didn’t find this image in my scan pile of film negatives until yesterday.  Taken with the gear that Mel gave me for Christmas 1997.  We really miss him, along with all of his puns and Dad jokes.

Time continues to fly by.  It’s been about three years since we last saw my dad, but it seems like only a few months since we last visited with him here at our home.  I need to take more photos of him.

Saturday we took our nephew, Josh, out to celebrate his 21st birthday.  Not one for partying or celebrating with a bar crawl, we asked him what he wanted to do and went to Baltimore.  It was an all day affair, with a tour of the Historic Ships, followed by a visit to the B&O Railroad Museum, and capped with a meal of wave after wave of delicious grilled delicacies for a genuine meatasaurus rex at Fogo de Chão, a Brazilian churrascaria.

A celebration he won’t soon forget — Happy Birthday, Josh!

We’ve noticed as the years go by that the average age of attendees seems to be going up, which is a shame because young families could really benefit from and enjoy their time together out on the water.
